TEDx AFC! (ideas conference)
I was at TEDx AFC, 2011!
(AFC = America’s Finest City, otherwise known as San Diego)
It was great… (at this cool building)
(By the way, if you don’t know what TED conferences are, see this. Not optional.)

It was originally just going to be me going, but we won 2 free tickets, so, my brother and mom got to go as well. (and yes, as you can see, a professional was taking pictures in front of this board. I brought my iPod Touch, for video, but we’ll get to that in a sec.)

Okay, here’s the deal:
I love the TED crowd. Nowhere else can you stand in a group of people, and have such a strong sense of, “Ah, I bet all of these people are awesome.” (attendees usually have to be accepted or invited, you see, ensuring that the only potential question-mark in the crowd is me.) It’s stoking. There’s a huge mix of good-natured, intelligent, design/invention-minded, and very “no-is-not-an-answer” people here… Some are society’s thinkers and doers, and others are ordinary-but-totally-into-it (and thus very unordinary).
I long for the day when society has improved so much, and the average person has such a good sensibility, that you can feel this good toward those around you even while you’re in a public restroom.
Here’s a quick run in Photoshop, to explore this idea:

And here’s what I did with my iPod Touch. (I had a much better video camera with me, but wanted to get my practice in with this more. I’m trying to decide how I want to shoot my future projects, and need to decide what, exactly, I can do with a pocket cam on the side. Apparently, not much that isn’t shaky.)
By the way, here’s a short clip from someone else.
This was the part where I got bored, stood up, and belched out 10 beachballs for everyone to play with.
